Biografia
Italian historian and art critic. He was director of the Istituto Centrale del Restauro from its foundation (1939-1961) and of the magazine L'Immagine (1947-50). Professor of Medieval and Modern Art History at the University of Palermo (1961), then of Modern Art History at the University of Rome (1967-1976); since 1982, he has been member of the Accademia dei Lincei. In addition to his numerous scientific publications on art history and restoration theory, he also wrote poetry and travel literature.
