Mask

Mask from the Guru people of Côte d'Ivoire. A “small-sized mask [...]. Its regular, symmetrical features stand out clearly against the smooth, lustrous face; the coiffure [...] consists of a narrow band of parallel ridges. Only the spiral horns, which echo the oval of the face, project forward and contrast with the curve of the profile, enhancing it” (quoted from E. Bassani [ed.], Arte dell'Africa Nera, Florence–Milan, Skira, 2000). The work is part of the Bassani Collection (inv. AFR 00042 2513A).
