Door

Single-panel door from the Senufo people, Mali or Côte d'Ivoire, probably from a house or a shrine and lacking a lock. Of considerable age, it is decorated with a composition of symbolic motifs: at the center, a solar disc from which four rays radiate defines four panels containing carvings of two tortoises and two hornbills. A human figure and two quadrupeds standing on their hind legs complete the decoration in the lower section of the door. The work is part of the Bassani Collection (inv. AFR 00026 2513A).
