Descrizione

Mask of the Mende people of Sierra Leone, dating to the 20th century. The mask is of the sowei helmet type and features a domed hairstyle divided into six sections by plaits. The face is defined by a rounded forehead, crescent-shaped eyes, a small nose, and a mouth placed along the chin profile. The neck is formed by a series of stacked folds resembling rolls of fat. The work is part of the Bassani Collection and is housed at MUDEC – Museum of Cultures, Milan (inv. AFR 00019 2513A).
