Statue

Zoomorphic head of the Bamana people of Mali, dating to the 20th century. The sculpture depicts a horse’s head with an elongated muzzle, an open mouth, and ears swept backward, a formal device suggesting the animal’s movement and speed. The work is part of the Bassani Collection and is housed at the MUDEC – Museum of Cultures in Milan (inv. AFR 00008 2513A).
