Mask

Zoomorphic helmet mask characterized by a double snout with strongly emphasized fangs (Ivory Coast, Baulé people). Two additional animal figures appear on the upper section: a leopard, identifiable by the spotted rendering of its coat, and possibly a dog. On one side, in relief, is the depiction of the red disc mask with horns, the ritual image of the celestial buffalo kplékplé, originally associated with the Goli ceremonies connected to the fertility of the land. Formerly part of the Laura Franco Monti collection, the work is now housed at the MUDEC in Milan (inventory number 00014).
