Laviosa, Clelia

Born in Rome in 1928, she graduated in the same city and in 1954 joined the Italian Archaeological School of Athens. In 1958 she became inspector at the Superintendency of Antiquities of Etruria. From 1959 to the mid-1970s she directed the excavations at Roselle, documenting their results in annual reports published in Studi Etruschi, an activity that marked a decisive phase in her scientific career. In 1964 she was appointed full member of the Institute of Etruscan Studies and obtained a “libera docenza” (free teaching qualification) in Archaeology and the History of Greek and Roman Art. Between 1969 and 1973 she was assistant at the Italian Archaeological School of Athens; after returning to Italy, she served as Superintendent of Antiquities, first in Liguria and then in Piedmont. From 1975 to 1979 she was a member of the governing board of the Institute for Mycenaean and Aegean-Anatolian Studies. She later worked at the Special Superintendency of the Prehistoric and Ethnographic Museum “L. Pigorini” in Rome and, from 1983, as an archaeological inspector for the Ministry for Cultural and Environmental Heritage. In 1992 she was appointed coordinator of the Technical Service for Anthropology and Paleopathology of the same Ministry.
