Biografia

Fausto Giaccone grew up and was educated in Palermo. In 1965 he moved to Rome, where he graduated in architecture. In 1968, with the beginning of the student movement, he chose to devote himself entirely to photography. Since then he has worked as a freelance photographer, mainly focused on social documentary work. His early collaborations were with political newspapers and magazines in Rome such as "L’Astrolabio", "Rinascita", "Vie Nuove", and "Noi Donne." During those years he often worked in southern Italy as a documentary photographer, in Sicily, Calabria, Apulia, Basilicata, and Sardinia. In the second half of the 1970s he also collaborated on several television documentaries in Africa and Latin America. In the early 1980s he moved to Milan, and until 2010 he travelled extensively for various magazines, either on commission or, preferably, on subjects he chose himself. After the period of photojournalism, he focused mainly on producing photography books and on organizing his archive, which spans about forty-five years of work.
