Donna nuda in ginocchio

The photograph depicts a painted and hollowed-out sculpture of a naked woman kneeling, dated between 200 and 600 AD. The work is considered one of the rare examples of large-scale sculptures depicting human figures and is typical of the work of the Tarascan artists of Nayarit. The woman's body shows few disproportions and the physiognomic accents appear reduced; the figure is firmly composed and harmonious. The photograph is part of the iconographic apparatus of the volume Museo Nazionale di Antropologia di Città del Messico (1979, pp. 38-39), part of the Musei del Mondo series published by Mondadori. The texts in the volume were written by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti and Licia Collobi.
