Descrizione
Shaped vase with a relief salamander, invention by Giovanni Gariboldi [inv. 3524]. Richard-Ginori Ceramics Company, 1937. In this case, the reference to non-Western culture is twofold: on one hand, Gariboldi uses a form clearly inspired by typical East Asian shapes (see, for example, certain bottles produced during the Ming dynasty, Wanli period); on the other hand, the celadon glaze used for the coating is a material commonly found in Chinese ceramics. The vase was created for the 1937 International Exhibition Arts et Techniques dans la Vie moderne in Paris.
