Lidded box with ‘Poppies’ decoration

Small lidded box made of porcelain decorated by chromolithography in red and hand-painted in red and gold [inv. 3279]. Richard-Ginori Ceramics Company, 1923 (decoration). As noted by critics, the stylized decoration, depicting flowers and leaves in anti-naturalistic colors, displays an Orientalizing character, perhaps referring to the eighteenth-century ‘Tulipano’ pattern of the Ginori manufactory. In this case, the reference to the East is further emphasized by the shape of the object.
