The photograph depicts a Tlingit dancer's hat made of polychrome carved wood. On the back of the picture is a brief description of the object: “a fine crouching bear-shaped hat, the face is dark blue, the mouth and nostrils red, the body dark grey with patches of red fur, eyes and teeth inlaid with small pieces of abalone shell while the ears are missing”. The object comes from the border between British Columbia and Alaska.
