Descrizione
The photograph depicts the sculpture of a wrestler or, perhaps, a pelota player, a competition typical of the Olmec culture to which a meaning is assigned in relation to the struggle of the cosmic elements. The object, of porous material and green in color, can be dated between 200 BC and 200 AD and comes from Minatitlàn (Veracruz).
The photograph is part of the iconographic apparatus of the volume National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico City (1979, p. 44) part of the series Museums of the World published by the Mondadori publishing house. The texts of the volume were written by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti and Licia Collobi.
