Descrizione
The photograph shows a funerary urn or canopic jar in the shape of a jaguar with a characteristic collar decorated in fresco with traces of polycormy. The object can be dated between 200 BC and 200 AD and comes from the archaeological site of Monte Alban. The animal symbolizes the earth and death.
The photograph is part of the iconographic apparatus of the volume National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico City (1979, p. 43) part of the series Museums of the World published by Mondadori. The texts of the volume were written by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti and Licia Collobi.
