Descrizione
The photograph shows a vase with an anthropomorphic figure at the height of the neck of the container. The terracotta shows the variety of shapes as well as the diversity of decorations applied to this type of manufacturing that highlights a certain imagination of the craftsmen. The anthropomorphic figure probably refers to Cocijo, a rain deity, venerated by the Zapotecs. The work can be dated before 200 BC and has an entirely black color; the vase was found in a burial inside the Tlapacoya pyramid.
The photograph is part of the iconographic apparatus of the volume National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico City (1979, p. 40) part of the series Museums of the World published by the Mondadori publishing house. The texts of the volume were written by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti and Licia Collobi.
