Descrizione
The photograph depicts a pre-Columbian terracotta modelled, engraved and dated to 600 BC. The object, from the state of Guerrero in south-western Mexico, represents a typical example of figures characterised by emphatic bodily deformations, especially that of the skulls, and by line engravings indicating facial features, clothing and decorations. The production of this type of sculpture has been called “San Jeronimo”. The photograph is part of the iconographic apparatus of the book Museo Nazionale di Antropologia di Città del Messico, published in 1970, included in the Musei del Mondo series directed by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti, and published by Mondadori.
