Photograph of a statuette depicting a hunchback figure published in Franco Monti’s volume Terrecotte precolombiane, Fratelli Fabbri Editori, Milan 1966, p. 108. The photograph is accompanied by the brief caption: “Hunchback figure. Andrés. District of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. New York, Museum of the American indian” and by a more extended description: “48. Hunchback figure. H. 40.6 cm. Andrés. District of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. New York, Museum of the American indian. It is considered an image of a deity, since it was found on an altar; it is nonetheless one of the most exceptional works from the Antilles, both from an aesthetic point of view and from that of technical execution, given the extremely thin wall thickness.”
