The photograph is accompanied by the brief caption: “Vessel with a neck in the form of a human head. Northern coast. Peru. Lima, Museo Nacional de Antropologia y Arqueologia” and by a more extended description: “66. Vessel with a neck in the form of a human head. H. 46 cm. Northern coast. Peru. Lima, Museo Nacional de Antropologia y Arqueologia. The typically Tiahuanaco-like polychromatic palette here contrasts with stylistic elements clearly of another origin, in this case Nazca. The great expansion that the Tiahuanaco culture had in Peru, especially in its late phase, is at the origin of this contamination.”
