Between May and July 1956, Antonietta Raphaël undertook a long journey to China, together with a delegation of Italian artists including Aligi Sassu and Giulio Turcato. Between October and January of the following year, they presented the works inspired by this journey in three solo exhibitions: at the L'Incontro gallery in Rome, presented by Maltese, at the Strozzina in Florence, presented by Cesare Brandi, Mezio and Alberto Moravia, and at the Unione sindacale in Turin, presented again by Brandi.
