Biografia

An artist of Lithuanian origins, she moved first to Paris and then to Rome, where she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1925; here she met her future husband, the painter Mario Mafai. Roberto Longhi, in reviewing the 1929 collective exhibition where a work by Raphaël appeared for the first time, together with those of Mafai, Scipione and others, used the term "Via Cavour school", alluding to the address of the two spouses, a meeting point for many artists of the time, to unite their style. Interested in painting and sculpture, the critic underlines the artist's importance in the Thirties in fueling the research of the so-called Roman School.
