The Creation of the World (La Création du Monde), 1956.

Mirko Basaldella designed the sets for the production La Création du Monde (1956), staged at the Rome Opera House in 1956 (Composer: Darius Milhaud; Conductor: Bruno Bartoletti; Choreography: Aurel Miholy Milloss). In these scenes, the artist incorporated totemic, primitive, and tribal iconographies, probably inspired by African and Middle Eastern artistic traditions. Among these are prominent mythological animals recalling the chimeras and lions that Basaldella was simultaneously producing in sculpture during the same period.
