Fondazione Lelio e Lisli Basso (1588)

The Lelio e Lisli Basso Foundation - ONLUS was founded in Rome in 1973 from the merger of Lelio Basso's personal library with the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Society (1969) and was made a non-profit organisation by decree of the President of the Italian Republic in June 1974. Since 2005 it has merged with the Lelio Basso International Foundation (1976), integrating into its activities the global vocation for the promotion of human rights and peoples' rights. A point of reference for several generations of scholars, politicians and intellectuals, its mission is to promote the cultures of democracy and rights, the environment and the commons, equality and diversity, human rights, peoples and the person.
